The Atlas

The media side of the cosmos, which the course only touches. Only what stands in a real relation to the cosmos, made by members, treated by the group as theory, or a bearer of the same mythology.

Hyperdub

The label Kode9 founded in 2004, grown out of a webzine of 1999. The place where the theory of Sonic Warfare meets the practice, from Burial's dubstep to footwork. Before it Goodman ran the small label Katasonix with Fisher. Protected, listed here only.

Kode9 as producer

Under the name Kode9 Goodman makes the music his theory comes from, out of jungle, pirate radio and soundsystem a speculative aesthetic of bass. The albums with the Spaceape are the sounding side of Sonic Warfare. Protected, listed here only.

Drexciya and the Black Atlantis

The Detroit techno duo invented an underwater world peopled by the descendants of the pregnant women thrown overboard from the slave ships. This Afrofuturist mythology the CCRU takes up as the Black Atlantis, kin to Cthelll. Music becomes here itself a hyperstition. Protected, listed here only.

Jungle and the rave culture

The jungle of the early nineties is the sonic ground from which the CCRU drew its terms, the sound of an accelerated future. Out of that conviction came Sonic Fiction and Sonic Warfare. A reference to a genre, not a single source.

The Otolith Group

The artist duo Eshun founded with Anjalika Sagar in 2002 carries Sonic Fiction into film and art, nominated for the Turner Prize in 2010. Protected, listed here only.

Orphan Drift

The art and media collective of the early CCRU wove text, image and sound into a hallucinatory stream and translated theory-fiction into a visual language. Partly free, the collective keeps its own archive.
