The Sources of the Numogram
The Advanced Mode
Every great system claims an age. The Numogram claims the beginning. It does not claim to descend from the old teachings, it claims to be their origin.
Its kinship is easy to see. The kabbalistic Tree of Life bears ten Sephiroth as the Numogram bears ten zones. Gematria holds, as the whole system does, that number is substance and not a mere sign. The obvious story would be that the diagram is a late offshoot of these traditions. The CCRU inverts it. In its papers an invented figure named Chaim Horovitz brings up from a Mu-Archive in Tibet an original decimal qabbala, against which the late, letter-bound qabbala of the Judeo-Christian tradition is only a mutilated remnant. The Numogram does not descend from Kabbalah, the CCRU says, Kabbalah is a scrambled memory of the Numogram. This cannot be proved, and that is not the point. The move lifts the system out of history and sets it before its own sources. This is theory-fiction applied to its own birth.
One floor, though, truly holds, and it is not a borrowed one but its own. The six zones of the inner ring form, by continued doubling, a closed cycle, one, two, four, eight, seven, five and back to one. This is no claim about foreign systems, it is the pure arithmetic of the Time-Circuit, checkable with a pencil. The CCRU calls exactly this inner ring the numerical domain of the I Ching, and there lies the one link to an old teaching that is not merely asserted but computed. Everything mythic in the Numogram rests on this small, hard sum.
The rest is dark material, chosen on purpose. The CCRU reaches for the charged, for Lovecraft's invented cults, for the hermeticism in the line of Aleister Crowley, and above all for the name Lemuria, the sunken continent that carries its whole mythology. It takes this material because it is dark and loaded, not because it is true. And loaded it truly is.
[Critic, expandable] Here the judgement belongs, spoken openly. The inversion of origin is a rhetorical positing, not a proof, it sets the Numogram at the beginning without being able to. The only thing that reaches beyond the claim is the internal arithmetic, the doubling cycle of the inner ring, which the CCRU calls the numerical domain of the I Ching, and it holds because it is computed, not because it is old. Further links to the I Ching or to Kabbalah, often asserted in secondary literature, are correspondences, not proven identities, and should be read as such. The material itself is mixed and in part poisoned. The name Lemuria carries a real, racist history no one may conceal. It comes from the zoologist Philip Sclater, who in 1864 posited a sunken continent to explain the distribution of lemurs. Ernst Haeckel turned it into the cradle of humanity, and Helena Blavatsky's Theosophy turned it into the home of a third root race, a pseudoscientific doctrine whose grading of humanity into higher and lower races is deeply racist. Through Lovecraft and through Theosophy this material found its way to the CCRU. The group knows its origin and plays deliberately with the loaded stuff. This page names the origin openly, it does not adopt it. That is the whole of what it stands on.
